Custom Mascot Plush

A mascot exists as a flat drawing with clean outlines. A plush is a set of fabric panels sewn into a curved solid, and the two are not the same object. Getting from one to the other is a pattern-making job, not a printing one.

Where the seams fall is the whole thing. A seam through the middle of a muzzle, or a head cut from too few panels so it comes out egg-shaped rather than round, produces a toy that is recognisably almost your mascot. Everybody sees it and nobody can say what is wrong.

So we pattern first and show you a photograph of the sewn sample before the run, from the front, the side and three-quarters — because a plush that looks right head-on can be completely wrong in profile, and profile is how it will sit on a shelf.

Why does our plush not quite look like our mascot?

Almost always the pattern. Too few panels in the head makes it egg-shaped instead of round, and a seam crossing the muzzle breaks the face. Both are decided before any fabric is cut, and both are invisible in a flat artwork proof — which is why we send a photograph of a sewn sample instead.

Can you work from just a logo?

Usually yes, and we will tell you early if the character will not survive the translation. Very flat graphic mascots sometimes need a small redesign to exist in three dimensions, and it is much cheaper to find that out at the pattern stage.
