Keychain & Mini Plush

Mini plush are the highest-volume thing we make and the easiest to get wrong, because the instinct is to shrink the character. Embroidery has a minimum stitch size, so a shrunk face turns into a dense blob of thread where the eyes should be.

What works is removing detail rather than reducing it: fewer colours, bigger simpler shapes, and the two or three features that actually identify the character kept at a readable size. We redraw for the format free and show you the stitch-out.

The other thing to specify is the clip. A keyring attached to a surface panel will tear out; anchored into a seam with a webbing tab, it takes the load through the stitching. Since these live on bags and get pulled, it is the difference between a giveaway that lasts a year and one that lasts a week.

Why does our mini plush look muddy?

The artwork was shrunk rather than simplified. Embroidery cannot go below a minimum stitch size, so fine detail becomes a solid blob of thread. Removing detail and keeping two or three identifying features at a readable size is what makes a small plush read.

Why do the keyrings pull off?

The clip was attached to a surface panel, so the load goes through one layer of fabric. Anchored into a seam with a webbing tab, the load goes through the stitching instead. It costs almost nothing and it is the whole life of the product.
